No Perfect People Allowed

Creating a Come-As-You Are Culture

John Burke, Lead Pastor, Gateway Community Church, Austin, TX; author of No Perfect People Allowed: Creating a Come As You Are Culture in the Church.

The church is facing its greatest challenge—and its greatest opportunity—in the messiness of our postmodern, post-Christian world.

God is drawing thousands of spiritually curious “imperfect people” to become his church—but how are we welcoming them?

Despite current thinking, John Burke says that reaching a post-Christian culture does not depend on visible changes, i.e. candles, liturgy and worship music... Instead, the invisible qualities of community and love are what this broken world is craving.

Can we trust God enough to enter into the chaos and believe that He is doing something new?

"No longer can our churches afford to stand on the cliffs high above the cultural mudslide, chastising people for not climbing out of the mess to come up to higher ground," says John.

Join CCN for No Perfect People Allowed and discover what can happen when your small groups - tethered to the Holy Spirit and the Body of Christ - dive into the messiness and chaos of people's real lives in today's culture.

Learn what's crucial in creating a small group culture that lives out the message of Jesus:

  • Create a Culture of Grace-Giving Acceptance – Come As You Are
  • Create a Culture of Authenticity – No Perfect People Allowed
  • Create a Culture of Growth – But Don’t Stay That Way

John says that churches must check their thinking by asking, "Do people come to get well or do people get well to come?"

One thing's certain: we cannot make people grow or change. That's up to God. However, this seminar gives us a fresh, new vision of the potential and power of the Body of Christ to transform lives.

So let's do our part! Let's start creating the kind of soil that's good for growing: a place where there are No Perfect People Allowed!

John Burke serves as lead pastor at Gateway Community Church in Austin, Texas, a congregation dedicated to helping unchurched people become a unified community of growing Christ-followers, no matter what their background or past. He is also the president of Emerging Leadership Initiative (ELI), a non-profit organization founded to help establish a multiplying network of missional churches that envision, equip, and empower young emerging leaders to plant innovative churches. Before starting Gateway, John was the executive director of ministries at Willow Creek Community Church. He is the author of the book No Perfect People Allowed: Creating a Come As You Are Culture in the Church.
